What is IKO (international kiteboarding organization)?

Through the development of a professional network of affiliated kiteboarding centers and trained instructors and examiners, IKO provides a high quality level of teaching, with standards that are recognized and applied worldwide.

Its mission is to develop and promote the safe practice of kiteboarding, in relationship with national organizations and the industry. It is not only dedicated to continue developing kiteboarding by enhancing high quality standards, but also by creating interaction between all parties involved in the development of the sport for the benefit of all. Thanks to its status, it can adapt to the needs of an international market and to the local kiteboarding practices.

The IKO Network

The IKO Network to-date includes over 130 affiliated kiteboarding centers in 38 countries, plus 21 active IKO Examiners and roughly 4.000 active IKO Instructors. Since 2001, IKO has certified over 240.000 kiteboarders worldwide, with over 40.000 new kiteboarders certified each year.

Hints and tips to speed up ones training and decrease your training costs.

1) Kite surfing is 80% kite skills and 20% board riding skills so it is always a good idea to invest into a small foil kite and at every opportunity you get take it out and fly it as this will increase your kite flying skills and get you to understand how to fly a basic kite, the wind window and power zone.

2) Spend some time at a cable park where you will get to understand how to use your feet and body to control the board and its great fun as well!! If you don’t have a kite board and would like to give the cable park a try please give us a call as we do rent out kite boards for the day.

3) Get your own gear even if it’s just your kite in the beginning. Now this we would only recommend to someone who is a 100% sure that they will do this sport for years to come.  Having your own gear gives you the opportunity to keep practicing once your 2 hour water course is complete.  This will greatly decrease the time it takes for you to learn the sport and save you money on renting gear as you will only be able to progress to the water course part 2 once you are proficient in all the areas of a specific course.

4) Get the Kite school DVD. This DVD shows you step by step each stage of the learning you have learnt in the above courses. This DVD helps as one can go home and in the own time work through the DVD and re-fresh ones mind on what they have previously learnt at there training.
