Beginners course

Introduction

Here at Inland kitesurfing we believe that kiteboarding should be fun and enjoyable for all, Kitesurfing is a fantastic water sport and we want you to become a part of it in a safe and friendly manner.

Kiteboarding has evolved in leaps and bounds through the years and was once a sport only for the Extreme but due to huge advancements in kites and training the sport has become accessible for all!!! With Inland kitesurfing you will be taught all the basics and we will supply you all the right equipment to get you going in a safe and friendly environment.

Once you have mastered the basics you will be able to sail with confidence and as you progress the sport becomes even more exiting as you start flying through the air. And remember kite surfing is a sport with very little boundaries and one is always learning new tricks.

In the past couple of years we have noticed that having the basic knowledge and been able to proficiently fly a kite before you head to the water is crucial for a safe and fast learning curve!!  Thus as of 2011 we have once again improved on our Beginners course and introduced a whole different approach to your 1st few lessons.

Beginners course

Lesson 1

This is where it all starts. Our beginners course is run over a period of 2 days and consists of 3 lessons, with your 1st lesson been a 2hr Theory lesson that takes place at our shop on the 1st or 3rd Saturday of each month.

We have also introduced the beginners course at Timeout Scuba in Cresta shopping center this course will only run once a month on a Wednesday evening (course dates can be seen in the booking forum) Lesson 2 for all Timeout Scuba students will then take place as stated below in the Lesson 2 Section.

Lesson 2

Your second Lesson will take place immediately after your theory lessons and will take place at a grass farm on the out skirts of Centurion, this lesson we will introduce you for the 1st time to the inflatable kites and you will be taught all there is to know about:

• How to do risk assessment of wind conditions and your surroundings.
• Kite inflation: Under, correct and over inflation.
• Equipment handling and maintenance
• Line setup: up-wind and down-wind rigging.
• Bar setup: adjusting the power by use of the bar and the trim-strap
• Packing away and storage.
• Kite repair.

Also on the day you will be introduced to basic kite flying on a foil kite where you will learn:

• Basic foil kite flying.
• Safety system.
• Power zone and neutral zone.
• Launching and landing a foil.
• Flying the wind window.


Lesson 3

Your 3rd lesson will then take place on the following Saturday where you will then be introduced to the Kitesurfing harness and get to fly a 10m  kite hooked in for the 1st time, this getting you better prepared for your 1st water lesson. here you will learn:

• Flying hooked in
• Untwisting of kite lines
• One hand kite control
• Blind flying
• Mastering the kite


At the end of the beginner’s course you will be proficient in the art of kite flying and will be ready to start with your water training.
Having the knowledge of foil kite flying, the wind window and power zones, greatly speeds up your learning time at the water so we can get you up and riding in the shortest and safest way possible inland.
