1. Are you water courses conducted all year round?
Yes our lessons take place all year round with the best time been from April through to Beginning of December, as this is the height of our season inland.
2. Is it not cold to kite in winter?
Our winter days in the highveld average around 15 - 20 degrees with our coldest month been July. So one does need a wetsuit to keep warm but the temp is certainly bearable and most time very pleasant and as Leewpan is shallow ones body is not fully submerged in the water the whole time except for ones feet where we will recommend boots. No training will be done at Sterkfontein in Mid winter as the water and air temp get too low for students to spend too much time in the water.
3. Where do you teach?
Our training is done at Leewpan dam this dam offers the best wind in Gauteng and the shallow water makes for fast and safe learning, the spot itself is also obstacle free with no rocks and stones nearby. We also offer Lessons at Sterkfontein and Barberspan.
4. What days do you offer lessons?
We offer the water lessons every time there is sufficient wind at Leewpan. If there is not enough wind on the day that the lesson has been scheduled your lesson will be re-scheduled to another day.
5. Must I make a reservation?
It is crucial that a reservation be made as we only accommodate 2 students per an instructor. The sooner you make a booking the sooner we can accommodate you at the water.
6. Once I’v made a booking how will I know when the water course will take place?
Once your booking is made you will be added to our training list and be kept informed veer email what the wind is doing and if we will have lessons on the coming weekend or weekday.
7. Do I need my own gear for the water lessons?
No one will be taught on the school equipment, but if you had your own gear and your 2 hr lesson is finished you will be able to carry on and practice under the instructor’s supervision with your gear at no extra cost.
8. Will the instructor call off a lesson for the day even if the wind is blowing?
The only time your lesson will be called off once at the dam by the instructor is if the wind conditions are not safe for learning. (Please don’t get mad with our instructors as your safety is our 1st concern and a beginner learning in unsafe conditions can get badly injured or injure another kiter that is on the water).
9. Do I get a refund if my lessons are canceled?
Re-funds will only be given if the course could not take place.
10. I am an accomplished wakeboarder/Surfer. Will I pick up the sport really quick?
As Kite surfing is 80% kite control you need to learn the necessary kite skills before attempting to get your 1st ride. When you get on the board a back ground in those other sports will be handy to have.
11. What must I bring for my lessons?
As we proved the gear all you need to bring for the day is a beach towel/Packed lunch/fresh water and sun screen.
